PROJECT PURPOSE
ThE PROMPT
In my Typography I class we were asked to create a monochrome wiki book of any theme with just two type choices. I decided to create a guide to the history and geography of Kansas City, MO, my hometown.
The RESULT
Since the book had to be monochrome, I went with a blue that's reflective of the "City of Fountains", as well as a nod to a few of KC's sports teams- Sporting KC, the Royals, and the Current. I restricted this color usage to the photography and linework, and overlayed these and content over a black and white aerial map of Kansas City, cropped and distributed out onto the pages. I went with "Ouma" with my header type which I also used as a visual element, and "Tiffin" as my body type.
The TAKEAWAY
Obviously the information in this wiki book was not the focus of this project, so being able to put the design of this book before the actual content it presented allowed me to configure the photos and maps the way I wanted to. This project really showed me how powerful it is to have real reason and purpose behind my design decisions, and how much value it adds to the finished product.
